29 Estate · 2010 · Franc
Our small cabernet franc vineyard is the most easily viewed block from the terrace of the winery, on a northwest-facing slope along the southern edge of the 29 Estate. We planted our cabernet franc vines in 2000 and have enjoyed watching and tasting their amazing development year over year!
Following three dry winters, rain returned to Napa in 2010 pushing bud break, flowering, fruit-set and veriason back by about two weeks. A relatively cool growing season held on through early September, but gave way to a delightful Indian summer in October leading to a later and compact harvest. The extra hang time this year has helped our wines to exhibit wonderfully developed flavor and color supported by very well balanced alcohol and acidity.
Opening with notes of fresh strawberries, crushed graham cracker and hints of sweet vanilla, these beguiling aromatics melt into a full-bodied, lush palate of ripe black fruits, dark chocolate and graphite. The structure of firm tannins and lively acidity are beautifully integrated completing this lush, velvety wine. Our Franc is extraordinarily expressive and approachable and can be enjoyed now and for the next 7 to 10 years.
