Clare Luce Abbey · 2005 · Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2005 vintage was an exceptional harvest in that we experienced the rare combination of high quality and high quantity. From bud break to harvest the growing conditions were ideal. These ideal Napa Valley growing conditions of hot days and cool nights, with only a few periods of major heat, contributed to producing possibly one of the finest years of winemaking in the valley’s history.
The Clare Luce Abbey mountainside vineyard includes 7 acres planted to cabernet sauvignon clone 7 on 110R rootstock. Trelising is Guyot simple single for cluster profiling and low yield farming. Winemaking was custom crush at, Vineyard 29 for Clare and Cliff Abbey prior to our acquisition of the property.
Winemaker Gerry Rowland shares the following tasting impressions: “Aromas of ripe black cherries, mocha, sarsaparilla and tobacco. There are flavors of blueberry, coffee bean, vanilla and white pepper. The mouth feel, like the aromas, are harmonious and balanced with a big fruit entry followed by a savory mid-palate with textural tannins and a hint of tar to complete the long finish.”
