CRU Spiced Nuts
08/27/2020 | comment
The perfect salty-sweet-spicy snack that is so easy it almost doesn’t need a recipe. Use the spices you love and treat yourself to a handful to keep you motivated through your never ending to do list, or every hour on the hour – whichever is more frequent!
Start by tossing 1½ cups nuts (such as walnuts, cashews, almonds, or pecans), ¼ cup sesame seeds, 2 Tbsp. honey, 1 Tbsp. olive oil, a big pinch of mild red pepper flakes (but you could also use Aleppo-style red pepper flakes or a much smaller pinch of cayenne or crushed red pepper flakes), and ¾ tsp. kosher salt in a large bowl.
Slide the mixture onto a rimmed baking sheet or large cast-iron skillet and bake at 350°, shaking once or twice, until nuts are golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes. Meanwhile, measure out 2 heaping tablespoons of the CRU Cabernet Spice or CRU Pinot Noir spice (our favorites!) and sprinkle on the nuts immediately after they come out of the oven. If you used the Pinot spice and want something smokier, try adding an extra teaspoon of Smoked Paprika to punch up the volume. If you preferred the Cabernet Spice, we love to add just a sprinkle of Unsweetened Cocoa Powder to give a really interesting mole vibe to your snacking.
Once they have cooled all the way, pack the spiced nuts into an airtight container for up to a week. Make a big batch and continue to experiment – you’ll thank us later!
